Job Description

Overview

The Staff Accountant is responsible for supporting day-to-day accounting operations, ensuring accurate financial records, and assisting with month-end and year-end close processes. This role requires strong attention to detail, the ability to prioritize tasks, and a solid understanding of GAAP and core accounting principles.


Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and post journal entries accurately and timely
  • Assist with month-end and year-end close, including balance sheet reconciliations
  • Support the preparation of financial statements and internal reports
  • Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts
  • Process and review accounts payable and accounts receivable entries as needed
  • Assist with bank, credit card, and account reconciliations
  • Help maintain supporting documentation for audits and compliance
  • Review, analyze, and reconcile expense reports
  • Assist with fixed assets tracking and depreciation schedules
  • Provide support for budgeting and forecasting processes
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP, internal controls, and company policies
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to resolve accounting discrepancies

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
  • 1-3 years of experience in accounting or similar role
  • Strong understanding of GAAP and core accounting concepts
  • Proficient in Excel (VLOOKUP, pivot tables, formulas)
  • Experience with accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, NetSuite, SAP, Oracle, Sage, or similar)
  • Excellent attention to detail, organizational skills, and time management
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in industry-specific accounting (e.g., construction, nonprofit, manufacturing, healthcare)
  • Knowledge of ERP systems
  • CPA or CPA-track (preferred but not required)
